When it came to designing my own kitchen, I wanted more than just a beautiful space, I wanted a showstopper that would be the ultimate hub for hosting. Despite having a large open area with bifold doors on both sides leading to the garden, I had limited wall space for cabinetry, so I had to get creative. When you have a blank canvas, some people find it difficult, but actually, it makes it so much more fun. I wanted to do something truly unique, something that hadn’t been done before. It’s worth highlighting that your ideas (however mad they might seem at first) can come to life. Be brave with your choices, sometimes they result in something really quite wonderful.
My standout feature is the stunning curved island. It had never been done before, and has never been replicated. This is actually the first time I’m sharing it with the world, unless you’ve been to one of my kitchen parties! The kitchen was designed around this striking, oversized centrepiece. Sculptural, space-like, and practical. The island is wide enough to host a full buffet spread and still have room for drinks, plates, and socialising, without ever feeling cramped. I went with five bar stools to keep conversations flowing while I cook, though I often find myself dancing around the kitchen, with the layout giving everyone space to move, mingle, and enjoy without getting in each other’s way.
